I bet them ole boys are kickin' themselves in the **** thinkin' all that money that they lost. Think the capt. (if that's what you'd call him) is still alive.

Some time back I fished a boat that will remain nameless. While I was chopping up fish I was checked. I had to do some fancy talking when I realized the boat didn't have a permit and used my other boats name and pemit instead. Not a tournament or anything but still sticky for a few moments...
I guarantee that’s what they did. The report says that they “A few hours ago, federal authorities informed us that Tuna Trappe did not -- at the time of the catch -- possess a valid HMS permit.Originally Posted by Deep C
Imagine the feeling moment the captain realized the screw-up (and potently lost 1/2 a mil for the boat), his *uts probably went straight to his throat!!!
I would be livid as the mate on that boat. Imagine loosing 50 grand because your captain (assumed) screwed up?
Yeh, I also felt there was some intentional significance to those words in the article text.... "at the time of the catch"......
How many years has HMS been law now? Not knowing is like
not knowing that you need a drivers liscence on I95.
And knowing and failing to get it is even worse.

I do feel bad for those idiots.....but......why in the hel_ do permits run out when they do. Why aren't they from Jan - Jan instead of running out during the season. That is stupid, albeit not as stupid as those that still don't get one and give away big $$
Everything has to expire at some time, and be renewed. Almost hard to pick a time on the calendar that some HMS species isn't still "during the season".Originally Posted by sugarmama

And the HMS has been expiring at the end of May for a while. I even got a reminder email when online renewal was possible.
Too bad that the "innocent" members of that crew have to suffer for the error of the (ir)responsible person.

Expirtations do happen... Still there should be a grace period. This year I remembered to renew on my own. The renewal reminder came after I had renewed and after I would have expired. In fact it only came lat week... Still, my reaction if I was on that crew would be an ugly one involving snapping off perfectly good size ten and a half topsiders up someones arse...![]()
I agree fellas. It is the Capt's job to make sure that he is properly liscensed. I do know that I have forgotten in the past. My point was....If they expired the same way that a fishing liscense does, you would remember to do both at the same time. That's all. I would still be doing this to the Capt.![]()
