What a beautiful day to be on the water!!! I stepped outside my comfort zone today and Captained a Mercury powered boatI get rather scared when asked to go on one of them black motored rides. Joined my very good friend Phil on his rig and we headed south to find that warm water and dreaming of striped torpedos.
2/3 of the way there the Merc hiccups and I go into panic mode!!! Where's the safety gear? Life raft? Flares? is there enough chicken to eat until help arrives?? Phil calms me down and we start checking things out, drained the Racor and she roars back to life and off we go. 68/69 deg at the Hole and put out and head SW looking for the temp break. Look we did! 30ftms to 150 we covered it all nearly to the Scallop Beds.
Finally find a little pocket of 72 deg and the WWB screams out!!!Phil springs to the rod and prepares to do battle when the line goes slack:
Phil the highly trained man he is drops back and BAM sucker came back and goes into the next zip code
I clear lines to deal with this sea monster. Fish goes deep at the boat and I expertly out drive the fish
to keep him outta the planer. First look I think we have snagged a Yellow Belly then I see stripes! This pig is on speed or something and goes nuts beside the boat when the I sink steel to him. Over the side he comes and chomps onto the gaff then the leaning post leg then goes after feet, legs and my A&W rootbeer
Phil sails onto the beast and after come to Jesus meeting Phil delivers a some kinda UFC submission move.... then there was silence
Nice 50lb. slob in the bag on ice!!!!!!
For his act of bravery Phil is my hero for the dayThe only strike we had all day but We'll take it. Usually fish all wire but today I changed up and pulled flouro and the only fish of the day went for the only top wire rig, blue/white Joe Shute 3 oz. head.
Worked the area but the pocket of water blended and we moved to 40ftms. then up towards the BR. Spied the Run Off gang cooking steaks or somethingTalked to Zack/ Custom Canvas through out the day and the ELectric Bill crew, Baywolf I hope you got enough Triggers
.
Stopped inshore and scnagged a few fat BSB and Porgies before heading to the hill. In the inlet the Merc stumbled and coughed againOh no....... Ckecked the Racor again and I see alot of trash. Switch to the aux. tank and head to the ramp. Main tank is going to get a serious cleaning this week.
Foul Hook'd
