Holden Beach Mid-week report
June 10, 2008
Well folks, the Spanish mackerel bite continues to be hot on the beach, while the king bite has slowed a little bit, go figure. The pogies show up in force, the kings disappear. However, the first sailfish inshore of the gulf stream showed up today. I had a ¾ day charter targeting dolphin, so we went to the horseshoe. We caught a few small dolphin, one king, several Spanish, and had a sail-dog “window-shop” in our spread, but couldn’t get him to eat. A good friend of mine hooked one on a pogy at the shark hole, but unfortunately busted him off. It’s only a matter of days before it will be worth targeting sail at the usual inshore hot-spots. There continues to be an above average blue-marlin bite in the stream, with quite a few gaffer dolphin and nice wahoo around as well. The fishing is as good right now as it’s been in several years. If you’ve been waiting on the right time to take a trip, this is it. Give us a call to book your trip today.
