Holden Beach Kingfish
Monday, I headed out with good friend Capt. Charles McClure of Lake Wylie, NC in search of kingfish. On the way out to the tower, I called some friends who where already out, and they said they were just picking on'em at the tower and inshore tower reef, as well as to the east, so we stopped on some bottom about 8 miles inshore of the tower and put the hardware out. In the next 1.5 hours, we put 44 kings in the box, all around 5 lbs. The wind picked up a little and switched around to the east, which killed the bite. We were only able to catch 10 more the rest of the day. All in all, not to bad of a day. We ended up with just short of 300 lbs., which is more than enough to pay the fuel bill and put a little bit in our pockets. On another note, Saturday, HB Marina customer Tom Vicars and crew made a trip to the bluewater. They started inshore of the steeples on a 3 degree temp break and workd their way up toward the same 'ole. Somewhere inbetween, they came across a nice pod of bait and pulled 4 yft and a peanut dolphin off of it, as well 2 kings in the mid-20's. We'll be on the water again on friday, so I'll post a report friday night.

Guys, I'm just wanting to clarify that we were commercial fishing. It has brought to my attention that I need to make that point known. Sorry for any confusion, but we are a legal commercial vessel, as well as a charter vessesl.

Thanks box. I'll be back around the tower on Saturday, so I'll post what we do. Just to let everyone know, Oceancrest pier on Oak Island decked their first 3 kings of the season yesterday and today. I've got a half day charter tommorow, so I'm going to see what we can do with 'em. Jig up some blues and see if we can't turn 'em into a king or two.
