Holden Beach Fishing Report 8-31
We headed out this morning hoping to get a trip in before the rain. We did get to fish a coup1e of hours before getting rained out, and had a decent trip. We started out spanish fishing right in front of Lockwoods Folly Inlet, and put 4 or 5 in the boat in about 5 minutes, but the guys said they wanted to try to catch something a little larger. We set off down the beach in search of pogies, which we found plentiful just before Ocean Crest Pier. After catching bait, we headed straight off the pier in about 30 ft of water, where the tideline was rolling through. I put the spread out, and it wasn't 10 minutes when one the Speedmasters all but exploded. We cleared the rest of the lines and gave chase, as the fish had already smoked off 350-400 yards of line. The fish started acting strange, so I knew it was a decent shark and not a king makerel. An hour later, we had the app. 70 lb. hammerhead on ice, and were headed back to the marina before the gullywasher hit. The shark was caught on a 20 lb. live bait set-up, and was one heck of a battle. It looks like the weather is going to clear up on thursday, so I'll be back on the water then. The fall fishing is just around the corner, so give us a call today to book your trip.

Lyndon,
Is there still alot of bait off Oak Island? We're heading down Thursday nite to hopefully get some fishing in this weekend.

There sure is. yesterday, we caught it just west of ocean crest pier. I'm sure there was some down toward the river as well, but we didn't run that far.
