    Holden Beach Fishing Report 8-24-09

The ocean was a little sloppy first thing this morning, so we spanished fished for a little while, with only one to show for our efforts. We then started working our way offshore in search of kings. We never did find them, however we did manage a handful of jumbo spanish, as well a 6 man limit of sharpnose sharks. All in all, not a bad trip. We should be on the water a few more days this week, so stay tuned.

Yea, I know Marty. I wasn't thinking anything about it. I'm the same way with spiny's. Battered and fried nuggets, or Zesty Italian on the grill. That'll make you hurt yourself. I don't know why sharpnose and dogfish have such a bad rap around here. If nothing else, they're a trip saver any time of the year.

Squid, you know how much hell I caught bringing sharpnose back to the dock at the fishing center. Oh well. In Holden Beach, they'll give you hard time if you don't. It's amazing what a difference 8 miles up the beach makes.

I appreciate it. It seems like in Sept. and Oct., they're as close to the beach as they get. They also seem to be close early this year. A good friend of mine caught one last thursday 2 miles straight out of the inlet, on a clarkspoon while spanish fishing. It was a cute little thing, only about 2 ft long, including the bill.
