    High Speed Wahoo fishing

I've done some high speed fishing in the past with pretty good results, but my question is....what's the lightest tackle you can use effectively? I've always used at least 80's on bent butts with a heavy drag. But here, all I have is 50 Tiagras and 30 Toriums. I'm pretty sure the Tiagras will work, but I'd like some opinions. They're loaded with 80lb. Momoi Diamond with about 300 yards of 130lb. braid under that.

50's packed with 80lb is fine...You will have problems with 30's...Its not the line capacity but rather the drags.

Thanks, it's pretty much the end of the wahoo season here, but with them booking me 3 hour bluewater trips, I gotta cover more ground to find fish.

    Thumbs up

john all i pulled there was 50s and 30s but the good thing you will find out is you will hit whoos there all year long period with that canyon you fishing in.
i havent got to the boat yet to get you the numbers i promished you and i will i swear, the best spots for the whoos is north towards east c there is a ledge that runs into a big pocket in 400 feet of water where the tunas stack up, when the wind moves ne it makes a big rip there, and just a little futher north of that is where i nailed my big marlin, it runs at about 5300 feet and turns strait up 5 miles off the island to 200 hundred feet of water waht a spot. ill have the numbers to you in 2 days i promise.
ill be in south in 2 weeks do you need anything at all?? just let me know

Were you pulling more lures or bait? I'm gonna pull some lures tomorrow to cover more ground. I keep getting these 3 hour trips and I don't have the time to go far.

capt i always pulled lures, but as you stated before them damn cudas are a real pain when your trying to run the edge, i always found the fish working the point of e.c. working back to s.c., there is also so damn good bottom fishing there out to 200 feet of water. icatch some of those sprats as the locals call them, got some really nice fish but the sharks got the best of them lol .

    good luck shane

You pretty much summed up my thoughts as well. Rigged up a bunch of lures I brought over here with me today. I tried bottom fishing for a little while and not one single fish made it to the surface in one piece.

Thanks man. I'm saving them now. We blew a motor on the big boat yesterday and waiting on the new one to get here. I'll give them a try. Thanks again.
