    The next bite on a jig.
    32, 48 or 64 (or combination of these staggered) about 3 arms length in front of the lure.

    I'm guessing that the heavy bullet style lures like Ace's can be pulled right from the rod tip needing no weight???

    Thanks SD and Blue.

    My lure will troll up to 12 kts w/o sinkers...then they will start to tumble.

    The rig consist of a trolling sinker rigged on cable...attached to 15' of 400lb mono shock leader or 30'+ cable shock leader...attached to 3-4' cable lure leader...high speed lure with 0 degree double hook rig.

    trolling sinker should equal tackle size:
    50's =1-1.5 lbs
    80's =2-3 lbs
    wireline outfits = 3+ lbs

    We fish out of the rod holders...I prefer the bent butts over the straight butts for the high speed application...Notice in the pic the angler fighting a fish on the straight butt...the bent butts give you a better angle...less pressure on the rod tip...we work the fish with the boat...And always keep the boat in gear throughout the fight/wiring.

    The system is easy to quickly deploy in rough conditions...everything is on the main line...and no clips or devices to worry about..I run a 5-6 line spread off the tip without tangles.

    Some HS troll all day and pound the fish...others HS troll while traveling from A to B...most are surprised by the numbers.

    we do it out of Jacksonville... and get some slobs. Like WahooKing said, its very effective. Typically we start HS in the morning and do that until we find a concentration of fish or an area with a rip, temp break, bait, or structure. Then we may go to dragging meat (depends on how much gas we burned and how the bite has been).

    Speeds from 10 knots to 17 seem best for us. 14 is about perfect. That being said, I haven't been in about 18 months. Shame on me!

    3 fish per person? Did it change from 2 recently? Or with 3 per person would you have had the 500 lb commercial limit?

    I don't wanna completely derail this thread but I have some questions on high speed trolling and the guy who strarted this thread obviously has it down to a fine science. Awesome job on slaying the wahoo by the way guys!!!!

    In reference to trolling weights...

    I have never tried high speed trolling but I am really intrigued by it. In fact, I just ran out and bought a bunch of stuff after seeing this thread so I can give it a try pretty soon. I have a ton of questions on this subject but I will start with trolling weights. I have only seen the trolling weights with the eye molded into the weight. I think the official term is(brass sinker eyes). I am thinking that this is an extreme weak link and I was looking at Wahookings website where he has a trolling weight with a hole running through it so it eliminates the brass sinker eyes and makes for a more secure rig. Am I over-reacting when I think the trolling weights with brass sinker eyes are a weak link? I can't find the trolling weights with a hole running all the way through them. Can they be purchased or is that more of a custom job? I have a ton of dive weights and was thinking of buying a mold so I can make a few of my own trolling weights that mimmick wahookings. Do any of you guys make your own trolling weights for high speed trolling and if so, where is the best place to get the mold? Sorry I have so many questions about one specific thing but I really wanna try this type of fishing out!!!

    Again, awesome job slaying those wahoo!!!

    Cheers,

    Dave
