Do you have that rigged as a center rigger yet? I'm thinking a roller troller attached to a longline clip should get it done. Just clip in on and off when needed.

Thanks for help guys. It sounds like I just need to keep the 50's like they are and buck up for the Sniper outfit. My buddy has a pair of the 80's but there on straight 5'6" rods, I'll see if I can talk him into let'in me fix them up as a sniper outfit.

this season

I bought one in Jan to use this year . bent butt rod & 80 tiagra with 800yds 200lb power pro and mono backing . rigged it box style thanks to Marty's video . I am only going to pull a #12 planer on it . water in area for bfts is around 20 to 30 fa at the most .

Marty is there a shop down you way that has the old salty's on the shelf ? I will be down fishing the wahoo challenge with Shane & the block and can pick it up then .

Kevin

However, the rod itself is so stiff, you almost can't see the bite. I used to use a slightly lighter rod, that was up to the heavy duty use, just not the right guide set up.

It got a nice bend in it and you could see the bites much better. I never spent 10 minutes pulling around a snake king, or peanut dolphin, that you didn't know was on there.

My next custom planer rod is going to be just enough lighter, with the proper guide set up, so I can actually fish it.

This is only MY way and not suggested to be the only way.
It was great to get to fish with the Sniper to compare to my DFA set-up and yes the biggest difference was watching the action in the rod and the strike was much more noticable.....I am thinking I may need another set-up why not run one off each side, that would just mean I need bigger fish boxes

I still love my DFA from Jerry Baldwin at B's Rods.

Its the freaking heat baby. Heck, I even caught a GBFT that dressed at 344 on it this year.

Nice soft tip action with lots of ball busting backbone. It's definetly one of the sexiest planer rods out there.

I have a Penn 130 2 speed on my DFA planer rod. 500 yards of 100 lb test Momoi diamond line backing with 500 yards of 150 Moss Green Power pro on top.

Now that is a plow!!
