Just an observation:
I have the standard setup as everybody else. 80 Tiagra mounted on a short broomstick. It works, got Kelsey her first Hoo on Saturday.
However, the rod itself is so stiff, you almost can't see the bite. I used to use a slightly lighter rod, that was up to the heavy duty use, just not the right guide set up.
It got a nice bend in it and you could see the bites much better. I never spent 10 minutes pulling around a snake king, or peanut dolphin, that you didn't know was on there.
My next custom planer rod is going to be just enough lighter, with the proper guide set up, so I can actually fish it.
This is only MY way and not suggested to be the only way.
