    HELP PLEASE, 200 YAMAHA HPDI

Could use some help. Last fall we changed the impeller, launched yesterday no fwd or reverse. I didn't put the throttle in gear when we dropped the lower unit. I suspect the shaft is misaligned, does anyone know how to resolve this problem? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a shift cable, or a linkage issue... corrosion from sitting all winter, water got in to the jacket

Did the gear oil get replaced in the fall, I doubt the is a gear problem or case problem.

Check the shift linkage on the motor.

With the control box at the helm, depending on the style be very careful opening it, sometimes they are a jack in the box and shit goes flying everywhere

Baywolf ,drop your lower unit about 1.5 inches and see if the shift rod on the lower unit and midsection meshed together. Call if you have any questions 252-526-1561

When you changed the impeller did you have the motor in reverse ? I believe the gears have to be in reverse when you change the impeller if it wasn't that is the reason you dont have any forward or reverse. Not sure of the procedure to get them back but I know you will have to drop the lower unit again....Mark

I believe all you do is put shift lever in reverse drop the unit. make sure you put the lower unit in reverse before reinstalling. Reinstall and let us know if it works.....Mark

Had additional issues. when I started up the motor to test it after taking it apart and putting it back together the motor reved open. Shut her down and called Sam back, said there must be water in the lines and fuel separator. I changed out the separator and the other fuel filter with Fowl hooked's help and checked the fuel in the tank and flushed the lines. Ran a little sluggish at first then smoothed out. As for the shifting, see that shaft with the splines, that has to be lined up just right. Take a pliers and turn the shaft so the prop is in neutral, just right then lift the lower unit back in place. Double check fwd and reverse by shifting and trying to spin the prop. Start and test. All is well, Thanks a bunch Sam and all on SFC.
