    HELP! Catching Squid

Can anyone point me to a thread on catching squid at the canyons? We consistantly get bites on the squid we catch, but the problem is catching them.
We usually net a few when they come by in the lights if we are lucky. Jigging them on squid jigs has been unsuccessful. I have tried single, daisy chain on dropper loop, on top going right through schools of them, mid water where we are markin, and going to the bottom.
We have tried a bunch of stuff with little success, so if anyone has some success stories they can share I sure would appreciate it. I was thinking about maybe trying during the day on the bottom?Would be nice to get a dozen in the livewell. Thanks in advance!

I have caught them on sabiki rigs, don't know the size but call it medium, not the little ones like you use for cigars, bait size about 1 1/2" maybe.

we had the same issue but now it is solved. make a dropper chain with 20lb flourocarbon and drop it as deep as you can then just reel up. courtesy of canyon runner.

What kind of jigs are you using? I have had the best success with this type

There is a definite knack when you see them in the lights. Sometimes they pounce right on it, but most times you have to play keep away to get them fired up.

The dropper chain works great if you are marking them. Or send it all the way to the bottom and jig. Reel up steady when you feel it get heavy

These are pretty cool, JB has them in the store.

You put a butter chunk on there and send them over, the squid like to steal your chunks anyway so why not catch them.

Take about 6 or 7 of these and tie them on some flouro about 1 foot apart, put a small hammered diamond jig on 5 or 6 ozs with a treble hook on the bottom for weight and drop it down to where you are marking them or drop it all the way down to the bottom and slowly work it back up until you feel some tuggin Stick your rig under the lights for a few minutes and these things glow also.

Have fun if a big ole tuna or shark comes and eats the buffet line as you are bringing it up!

    good replys

Thanks for the replys guys. We have got a couple on sabiki rigs. We have tried dropper chains with no luck. Have caught a couple in the lights, but usually get one and they smarten up.

I like the rigs you put bait on since the squid devour the butters and sardines. I will try to post a pic of my dropper rig tomorrow maybe it's not rigged right. Thanks for the pics/links

What size/color are youguys using for the dropper rig vs tying direct to catch them in the lights?
