I'm Looking for advice on Heavy Shoot for Turkey. Does anyone use it? Is it better than Lead? How much? Does it even work?![]()

We use #6 Hevi for geese and consistantly kill out to 50 yds.Originally Posted by Buckeye
One day my brother and I did an unscientific test. We have an
impoundment that plant for waterfowl. There are blinds on each
berm. In the early part of the season we had only one blind brushed
that we shot from. Across the impoundment a good 180 yards was an
unbrushed blind. I shot level at the blind and when we inpected
we found 15 pellets imbedded in the plywood. 180 yds#6 shot!

Tuff to beat good ole Copper plated lead. Stopped a jake @ 54 yds in his tracks w/ a mod. and # 5 shot last year. Mix up on choke noticed at last minute. Point is, choke it full and fill his head full of a heavty load of lead-- you'll be fine.
haven't tried it myself, mostly bow here, have several friends that swear by it. Best to try a few and compare 40 yd patterns. I would shoot which ever one put the most shot in a 6" circle. Either one will work. My buds say the heavy patterns better for them. I won't buy the wife any, she waxes my butt to bad now with a plain ole 2 3/4 12ga. I think she's 11 for 12, there was this one iron headed son of a ... at a tuff angle ... that lived to tell about her!
# 6 Heavy is deadly. It just takes a little bit of time to adjust to its speed.
I have duck hunted with it for the last 2 season and it is better than lead will kill farther than lead. I shot 3 case of it this duck season and at the end of the season ran out bought a box of steel and now i know why i was killing so many ducks!! you will not go wrong with heavy shot. be carefull though it kills on one end and wounds on the other end![]()
