    Hatteras Tuna jigging report 3/20

So this winter was horrible and my only fishing trip to Virginia Beach was a bust. I had been following reports of the hot bite in Hatteras and decided a trip had to be put together. I drove all night friday and only had 1 hour sleep before departure at 6am. As you can see it was very rough

It took us a little bit to find the Bluefins but when we did it was game on.

We ended up going 10 for 17 with all fish caught on jigs except one that was close to 200lbs on a popper. In the afternoon we saw some fish on the surface. We ran towards them and we threw a popping rod and a hookless popper on another rod. They started going crazy for the hookless popper. So much so that I threw a jig out skipped it on the surface and was on immediately. This fish made a run like I have never had before and immediately broke my 100lb leader. I think this was mainly due to the fact that I didnt have time to retie from my last fish before the surface action started. My buddy hooked up on a popper and landed this real nice fish in the video below

Here are a couple other vids of me getting my butt kicked but nice size bluefins

Here is a shot of all of our jigging gear

This is a great fishery down there and I can't wait to get back. I needed that!

Get that man a belt, make that 2 belts. 1 for his pants and 1 for the rod.

    Looks like fun.

We were using between 23 to 32lbs of drag and we beat most of the fish fast. We did have a couple demon fish though. I personally lost two. One was a random breakoff in my 80lb braid. The other was because I didn't have time to retie after landing another fish. We had surface chaos behind the boat. I threw a jig on the surface and got slammed. The fish broke the 100lb leader which I'm sure was frayed.
