Well, left the house around 5am on sunday morning chasin' Hurrican Noel's raw energy as it explodes all down the east coast. GIANT BOX SIZED coffee in hand and the Steve Miller Band blasting right along with me as I raced up the 17 towards New Bern. For a moment I felt like I was 17 again chasin waves with my best friends without a care in the world, for a moment music blaring with the anticipation of what could be...
.. running rampant in my head that excitement you only get with a hurricane swell. A little late and a few too many of these events in the last two years all forgotten if NOEL would deliver the goods. The "GOODS" were all ready delivered to Wrightsville Beach on saturday with inconsistent but very clean head high peaks that offered a full SCENIC OVERLOAD....
It was an absolutely beautiful day with some great waves. However, not quite enough to wash away the pain of a dreadful season for surf this fall.
Back on track running up to hatteras I arrived in Nags head around 10am to GIANT double overhead plus peaks exploding all over the place. Not perfect, just needed some time to clean up and it could be all I was anticipating. Ran down towards Hatteras checking all the well known spots like s-turns, boilers, pea island, and even Frisco. Everywhere needed some clean up time in order to organize so I headed over to Ocracoke and SCORED some very fun chest to head high waves with only a few people out. A great few hours, but alas not what were looking for.
Back over to Buxton and a check of the lighthouse late afternoon reveals some VERY HEAVY double overhead BOMBS blasting on the south groin in angry fashion. There were about a dozen guys on it, sort of a who's who of the outer banks and SE north carolina surf scene in Noah Snyder, Will Skudin, Fisher Heaverly, Brett Barris etc.. Took a few photo's just before dark and listened to stories of Will Skudin and Brett Barris doing tow ins on the hatteras shoals in 25 foot surf on saturday![]()

Off to Manteo to stay the night with my boy Joey...Thnks brother,,,,where we as mentioned previously spent the evening telling lies and making witches for mackarel fishing....
Monday brought the glory in it all with clean head high plus peaks all up and down the outer banks with only a few on it. I spent 4 hours surfing south of Nags Head all by myself in perfect 4-6' clean peaks.
640 miles in 72 hours, little sleep, and solo the whole way......
scoring the GOODS finally....PRICELESS![]()
