Ok all, I'm back from Hatteras and am officially worn out but had a blast.
We left for Buxton Friday about noon with pretty weather and high hopes. First thing on Saturday morning the weather was blue sky and the wind was out of the South / SE so we decided to fish the south beach at the false point near Hatteras inlet. We caught a great number of large blues, puppy drum, flounder, round heads, and a few black drum in the morning. The bite turned off mid day but then picked back up around mid afternoon. The highlight of day one was my friend Trent's 29 puppy drum.
Day two same wind same place same results except we also caught a lot of skates.
Day three the wind switched to NW and changed to NE so we set our course for the North beaches and setteld on ramp 23 near Avon because it had the least flat beach. The morning started pretty slow, but about 8:30 am Mr. 18 inch spec trout showed up on cut mullet. So.....we got out our grubs, mirror lures, and various plasitcs on jig heads. At the end of the day we of course had caught puppy drum, blues, round heads, and flounder. This time we also had 8 specs from 16 to 22 inches. We fried them all that night and it was the best meal I have had in a long time.
Day four the wind was still out of the North but 25-30 knots and cold. Not many fish at the same ramp 23 so we decided to move to the area near the point on the eastward facing beach near the lighthouse and found our way again catching mostly blues and round heads.
We talked to others at the hotel and it seemed that no one quite had the luck we did. Of course I noticed that instead of fishing they spent most of their time cruising around asking people if they were catching anything. Got to have lines in to have any luck and persistence pays off.

The small fish may have worked, I caught a fish that time but I don't remember on which hook.
