Piano wire is at best a single day leader - more like single fish... by storing them in a coffee can, you can quickly swap out your hot lure to a new leader between bites. The tag ends will poke holes in plastic bags - a coffee can - the plastic ones are great for this - won't get holes poked in it.
Thanks. Why aren't you guys using the stainless wire? Cost?

A 2lb coil of piano wire is $23.00 --- getting down right outrageous--- used to be $17.00 . Even at these prices, it comes out to be about $0.23 per leader--- compare to stainless about 10x the cost.

thanks boxman.......dave
I use needle eye hooks in the 8-10 size pending on the size of the bait I think it is a 7144 off the top of my head, probably wrong though.

3/8-1/2 oz just because I am kind of targeting hoos and they tend to like a deeper bait.

I go through a coil a year and twist 10-15 bait for every trip. At the end of the day used baits get cut up and the rest will be put aside for the next trip.

Cost is part of it - I also think that bright wire draws more bites than the coffee colored Stainless... Yes - a scotch brite pad will remove the coloring, but I'm lazy.

Piano wire also seems to be "softer" than stainless. Perhaps it allows the lightweight baits (plain sea witch ballyhoo that are mostly used here) to swim a little better?

In MHC, EJW, Capt Joes and Sea Water carry the Piano wire.

I don't know of a place in Raleigh that carries it, but I probably have a little extra I could get you.
