    Guides vs Rollers

Looking at getting two rods for near shore/offshore. Probably putting TLD 25's on the rod. Looking at getting something in the 20#-40# catagory. My question is guides or rollers. What is the advantage of one over the other? Personally I like guides, but all my searches for offshore rods seem to always come up rollers. I just ain't never liked rollers. Why do most major manufacturers put rollers on the offshore stuff? I would appreciate any input from the board on this issue as I'm completely freaking clueless on this topic.

I also like guides. I use all star handcraft rods with guides, check them out they offer a lot of offshore rods with just guides. Guides are a pain IMO.

I prefer guides over the rollers. That is mainly for meat fishing that I do. I can see the advantage of rollers for the bigger stuff.

I am not sure of the formula that old Archemedes came up with, but for every turn over a pulley(roller) the efficiency of the work is doubled. A major advantage for the big boys. But they need maintenance and attention to keep them in the hunt and working properly.

Yeah Paul LOL. Don't think a TLD 25 and wire go together.

Do you sell just blanks and guides as well as rods? If so I might wan't to get parts from you.

Same as Paul. In the class you're talking about there is absolutely no need for rollers. Nor, in my opinion, is there need for wind-on leaders.

Stick with ring guides and enjoy the maintenance free life.

i like guides on my small stuff and rollers on 50lb and up, one thing u have to look into is if you fish those small wind on swivels then can bust out the inserts on the guides but still go through rollers well

The next bite on a jig.
I would recommend turbo guides for this set up. Like the ones in the link, but without the roller tip and stripper. They tend to take quite a bit of abuse well.

Also one thing to conside with smaller line like 25 or 30lb that you would put on a TLD, it can go between the roller and frame and chaff it. Another reason to get guides.

    I LIKE THE (SIC) GUIDES...ROUND EYES.....INCLUDING THE TIP...FROM DINK RODS...UP TO 50 LB CLASS

AND YES...ROLLER GUIDES DO REDUCE A REDUCTION IN CRANKING DRAG POWER....BUT ARE A PAIN IN THE ASS TO KEEP THE BUSHING IN GOOD WORKING ORDER

I LIKE THE FREE FLOW OF MY WINDON CONNECTION IN THE ROUND GUIDES

    EXCEPTION TO THE RULE:

ON MY 80'S & 130'S....I DO PREFER THE ROLLERS.....
