Austin,
Keith Frazer (Alltackle) has a good write up on the Green stick

They "make" yellowfin. No need in using one on a rec boat, hit it right and you'll need to go home with your limit on one pass. If you get a chance catch a ride on a commercial boat that uses one, it'll turn you on. That's the best way to see how one work's. Frank

I think I saw a charter boat last year that was using one minus the baits. That thing looked awsome going thru the water

The Alltackle article clearly explains the basic setup...however, you'll also need a bandit reel with hydraulics to be able to pull the spread in even if it does not have a fish on it. There's a tremendous amount of drag on that line once it's deployed. The bird in the back keeps tension on the line and also provides great action (smoke). It's not something you get into lightly. A commercial tuna rod and reel friend of mine installed a green stick on his boat three seasons ago and he just all the kinks worked out this past season to where he is catching consistently on it.....he's been fishing in the NE for over 30 years and originally started in Gloucester.

Anyone who is interested; NC Sea Grant 919-515-2454 from NC State published a booklet a number of years ago called "The Wanchese Green Stick Tuna Rig, A Guide for Commercial and Recreational Use" that has everything you could ever want to know about a green stick

GREENSTICK
SEEN THEM SET UP A BUNCH OF WAYS,SOME USED W ROD AND REEL W/ INDIVIDUAL BAITS .SOME W/ SINGLE HYDRO REEL AND A BREAK AWAY LINE AT THE TOP OF THE STICK. LIKE ALL COMMERCIAL BOATS EVERYONE HAS THEIR OWN WAY OF RIGGING THEIR BOAT. THE ONE I FISHED USED BANDIT STYLE REELS TO INDIVIDUAL BAITS AND THE BREAK AWAY WAS JUST FOR INS. AGAINST BFT S
