Grady White.....meet Day Marker
snapped these pictures this AM. seems a 16 year old kid was, who was probably unfamiliar with boats and local waters, had an unfortunate meeting with a channel marker last night around 10:30. some people hanging on the dock heard the crash and called the CG. the CG found the kid unconcious in the bow of the boat. the boat was running at speed when the collision occured.....no spotlight to be found on the boat. kid was damn lucky he landed in the bow. there was blood all on the deck. if he would have gone overboard....well, only bad things could have happened. not sure of the kids conditon today....im sure it will be on the news this evening.
just goes to show, even in familiar waters.....take it slow under the cover of darkness and always have a spotlight at hand and use it.

Can't understand the parents of kids are thinking today. I had my first boat and motor in the 3 rd grade. Ok I admit that it was a 12' Bateau with a 3 hp on it but I was mobile! Then came my 7.5 and the mini Max Hydroplane the 9.8 on it. How did we survive our childhood? Maybe it was because we were started out with small boats till we learned how to use them responsibly and then we were allowed to have a bigger boat and motor. I know that one screw up and it was over for me. NO MORE BOAT!!! So I made sure I did it right...plus if I broke it I had better learn how to fix it. Personally I think 16, Hell, 12 is old enough to have and drive a boat BUT the training had better be in place. A 12' alum.boat with a 6 HP is a good place for a 12 year old to start learning how to handle a boat. Should he or she be turned loose with it...depends on the kid and the parent who did the training. The parent who gives the key to the 18' + with a 150 HP+ to their 16 year old needs their head looked at. Start the training early and reasonability!
I hope the kid will be ok. Hard way for the parents to learn. A child should not die before their parents...thats just not fair.

I think a 16 year old kid is capable of handling a boat. I turn 16 on thursday
and I've been running our boats for along time. Kids mess up when they have a bunch of friends on board that they are trying to impress, drinking, messing around ect. I dont do that stuff and neither does Brandon
.
I've taken the saftey course and was taught well by my dad(lawyer).
short and sweet kids can handle boats if they don't do stupid Sh%t
