GRAB A THRESHER BY DA TAIL VID

MAYBE THE TITLE TO THIS VIDEO SHOULD READ....CATCH A TIGER...I MEAN A THRESHER BY DA TAIL AND HOW TO MAKE A HOOOLYWOOD FILM FROM YOUR VIDEO TAPE

A FEW DAYS AGO...CAPT GOTTAFLY LEE , OVERBOARD JAKE , AND WILD1 ALONG WITH A COUPLE FRIENDS TOOK THE "BITE ME" OUT IN PURSUIT OF A GIANT HERE IN MHC..........WELL THINGS DON'T ALWAYS WORK ACCORDING TO PLAN AS YOU WILL SEE

I PERSONALLY HAVE ONLY CAUGHT BUT TWO THRESHERS IN MY TIME....AND BOTH WERE HOOKED IN THE TIP OF THE TAIL ....WHICH OBVIOUSLY IS HOW I FEEL THEY ATTACK A BAIT....THAT IS....THEY CRUISE UNDER IT & PIMP SLAP THE EVER LOVING HECK OUT OF A BAIT STUNNING IT FOR AN EASY MEALKILL.........

WHO ELSE HERE HAS HOOKED THEM IN THE TAIL? AM I CORRECT HERE ON THIS ASSUMPTION? IS THIS THE TRUE ATTACK MODE OF THE THRESHER? Y0U SHARKSTERS PALEEESE ADD YOUR WISDOM HERE

I DO NOT WISH TO...NOR AM I ATTEMPTING TO MAKE FUN OF...OR CRITICISE THE CAMERA MAN IN THIS UPCOMING VIDEO....SO DON'T TAKE THE NEXT VERSE THAT WAY...... I HAVEN'T A CLUE WHO FILMED THIS ANYWAY.....

BUT LET THIS UPCOMING VIDEO CLIP BE A LESSON TO FUTURE SAM PECKINPAW WANNA-BE'S.............

.FIRST.....HAVE A DESIGNATED CAMERA MAN...MAKE SURE HE KNOWS HOW TO OPERATE THE CAMERA......

DO NOT WASTE FILM ON BULLSHIT LEAVING THE DOCK......MOST GUYS HAVE LESS THAN 10% BATTERY LIFE WHEN THE GOING GETS GOOD....

KEEP THE NIGHT VISION LIGHT TURNED OFF.....I HAVE MADE THIS MISTAKE MYSELF MANY TIMES! THE FOLLOWING VID CLIP IS A PRIME EXAMPLE OF THE NIGHT VISION BEING ACCIDENTLY TURNED ON....IT MUST BE CHECKED REGULARLY

NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER ZOOM OR ATTEMPT TO ZOOM-IN FROM THE PIT.........YOU WILL MOST LIKELY MISS THE SHOT!!!....

MOVE AROUND WITH THE CAMERA....IT'S CALLED PANNING! .....GO CLOSE-IN AT TIMES ...AND GET FACE TO FACE WITH THE ACTION...............YOU DO NOT ALWAYS HAVE TO LOOK THRU THE VIEWER...JUST POINT & AIM

AND NEVER QUIT FILMING ONCE A FISH IS GAFFED OR NOT UNTIL ALL THE "BOAT ACTION" HAS TOTALLY ENDED.....YOU CAN ALWAYS EDIT OUT THE DULL MOMENTS

AND NEVER NARRATE WHILE YOU ARE FILMING IF YOU ARE A CERTIFIED AMATUER....NEVER CUSS....AND NEVER SAY "HERE FISHEY FISHEY"

CRANK IT IN......I MEAN CRANK IT UP! AND KICK SOME ASS....

IN NORTH CAROLINA..."BIG EYE THRESHERS" ARE PROTECTED.....WHILE SOME ARE NOT....DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO TWLL THE DIFFENENCE IN A BIG EYE OTHER THAN A BIGGER EYE?

Pretty work on the shark boys. Sorry I missed it and and glad that the Dexter Russel stayed stowed. I did recognize one of SFC's newer member doing the Crankin. That be Tom AKA Chasin Tail .
Nice work on the vid BOX. I see that we have added a little extra weight to that rascals club. Maybe he'll have a little better luck on them tuners than we have. How much they gettin for shark anyway?

We caught one in March of 2006 and yes sir he was snagged in the tail with a Yozuri DD. Fish went apx 200 lbs and was fought for an hour on a TLD 15 with 80 lb braid. Caught him right off AR 320

Absolutely in the tail when trolling!

    Box,
In So Cal, the majority of the shark fleet troll for Threshers in the spring summer, right of the coast out here literally from 1 mile off-shore out to 20 range, the Threshers stack up in big schools mauling the chovies and sardines, it's quite the site with the bait, birds, Threshers and Mako's some days, not uncommon to have multiple boats all hooked up within site of each other. 80% are trolling with Bait-O-Matics, Archer Shark Custom Lures with either a LIVE OR DEAD MACKERAL PINNED ON THE HOOK, Many guys just use Rappala's or Yo-Zuri big swimming plugs also, Many use downriggers to get one or two baits down deep and 90+% of the time the Thresher is SNAGGED iN THE TAIL just the way you think, When he WHACKS it to stun or kill it, most of the trolling Threshers are pulled in by the tail out here. There is a strong commercial Thresher/Mako fishery right here on the coast and there are quite a few shark poachers also, that is well known. most of them troll them up. The big Makos out here are caught on the drift with dead bait but small/medium Makos and all sizes of Thresherss are rountinely caught on the troll, Makos are caught in the mouth and the Threshers are snagged in the tail...

    Great Time!

That was a real first for me! It was like I was a virgin all over again!

Many thanks to Capt Gottafly Lee, Overboard Jake, BTH & Wild1.

    Thresher Feeding Habits - http://www.elasmo-research.org/educa...a_vulpinus.htm

Preys mostly on small schooling fishes, including mackerels, bluefishes, herrings and sardines, needlefishes, lancetfishes and lanternfishes; also feeds on squids, octopuses, and pelagic crustaceans, and - rarely - seabirds (one report of an individual killing and eating a loon off Ireland). Herds and stuns prey using long, whip-like caudal fin; often caught on longlines foul-hooked through the tail (apparently while striking at bait or hooked fish with caudal fin). Apparently hunts in small, loose groups, with the size of the group related to abundance of prey.

    Found this....

    Description:
The body of the common thresher shark is moderately elongate. The snout is rather short, and the mouth crescent shaped. The first dorsal fin is large, and located midway between the pectoral and ventral fins. The second dorsal and anal fins are very small. The tail is distinctive since it is very long, almost as long as the rest of the body. The coloration may vary from brownish gray, bluish or blackish above to silvery, bluish or golden below. The dorsal, pectoral and ventral fins are blackish and sometimes the pectoral and ventral fins have a white dot in the lip. The bigeye thresher also occurs off the California coast. It can be distinguished by its large eye; however, if you can count the teeth in the upper jaw, the common thresher has 21 - 22 on each side while the bigeye thresher has 10 - 11 on each side.

I guess it depends how bad you want to know....
