Gotta shake the skunk from this weekend

Hey guys, well as you can see I got skunked this weekend. Went to Ar-315 first and couldnt draw a bite. Picked up and headed to NW Places and had two short strikes and that was it. Trolled skirted and naked ballyhoo. How did ya'lls weekend turn out? Any suggestions on what else I might try to avoid the skunk this coming weekend. Will be heading out of Morehead again on Sat. Any help is greatly appreciated. Jay

Jay, When we get this kind of rain ( I think we had 11" in Wilmington ) your best bet is to get futher off shore to fish. Keep doing what your doing & don't give up...it will only get better.

DUDE....THE AREAS YOU FISHED ARE MORE PRODUCTIVE WITH LIVE BAIT....AND ARE KNOW TO BE HEAVYILY FISHED "LIVE BAIT" AREAS......DO WHAT LEE SAYS WHEN WEATHER PERMITTING AND GO TO 30 FATHOMS.....

IF THE PLACE IS ON A MAP OR CHART MARKED FOR PUBLIC VIEWING....I RARELY GO TO THESE SPOTS.....GO FIND THE BAIT AND YOU WILL FIND PREDATORS


BEING SKUNKED JUST MAKES YA MORE RUTHLESS....I WAS SKUNKED IN THE MID ATL....AND A NEAR SKUNK IN PC....DIDN'T GET A CHERRY ON NEITHER AND IT WILL NOT BE MY LAST NO SHOW DAY.....

Go to Freemans tackle shop and get you some live bait rigs, also pick you up a pack of Malin #4 wire and some 4x treble hooks a box of cigar minnows. Check out how the live bait rig is made and then look on the back of the package of Malin and it will show you how to make a haywire twist after a few tries you sholud be able to make your own. Go out the inlet right down through the Shipping channel stop at the 5th or 6th set of cans. Put a cigar minnow on the front and back hook of your rig by going through his bottom lip and coming out the top. Put your boat in gear at idle speed as slow as it will go and run 4 lines you should be able to catch some kings in this area and maybe a dolphin are two. This area will be crowded this weekend due to the 400 boats fishng the ABKMT.

Thanks for all the info guys and please keep it coming. I will def. try the cigar minnow approach instead of all ballyhoo next time. Dont know if i will make it out this weekend due to another damn storm but please keep the advice coming. thanks again this is a great forum
