Guns are a deterrent. Not in the sense of presenting them. When you present a firearm any deterrence is gone. You fully understand and intend to destroy what is at the other end of your muzzle.
However, the 2nd amendment creates the balance between good and evil before that firearm is ever drawn.
Evil will always find a way to obtain a firearm. However, the good will inherently exercise the means given to them under the 2nd amendment to obtain and carry a firearm. When the 2nd amendment is taken away, the scales tip to the wrong side. Simple as that. Because evil will always disregard the means.
Tactical shooting has given me a new appreciation and respect for firearms. Breathing, learning to remain calm, using your environment, understanding the mental and physiological reaction to extreme duress there by managing it, and much more.
