going for reds

hey havent done any red fishing before this early in the year i usually wait till the fall and go for them in the neuse out by cherry branch. I plan on going out to the cape this saturday and taking my girl shes been itching to go for some reds, i read some posts back in late feb. about some people having some good days out there. i was thinking about launching out of sea gate and trying my luck through there before heading out to the cape does anyone have some suggestions or any news of the bite picking up. any help is appreciated
