I've crossed the "T's" and dotted the "I's", waiting for the free pass to the video. Popcorn and Red Vines are within reach.
I'm from Oregon. We have a world-class Albacore fishery with a few peanut sized BFT's. Occasionally, we'll pick up yellowtail, Opah, and Mahi, but this is rare.
But... ... ... we do have BFT reported over 300 lbs!
Problem is, very few have the hardware for them, fewer yet know how to fish for them. I'm investing in a planer rod and a few 130's this year.
You guys are fortunate, as you fish in shallow water, less than 500 ft, right? We fish structure in 5000 feet frequently. Lots more places for a hooked fish to swim, higher chance of things turning out with an undesired result. You guys fish near the bottom, we are trying to fish the thermocline which can be a few hundred feet down.
Can you chime in with the most common planer lure is? I've got about 1/2 dozen Islanders that I plan on using a chin pin to bait up the lure. Any better ideas? Ballyhoo needs to be shipped in, so they're essentially not available.
Do you guys wear latex gloves and wash your lures down before fishing them? I've heard they BFT's are not nearly as suicidal as albies can be and a scent sensitive. Flouro top shots - got that handled.
Wahoonbox...think i have done this right. I added you as a friend on this site right? I went to another site w2mw dot com but could not find a log in. Anyway maybe I got it right.
Just a quick note - I think Wahoo are the best eating thing that swims, and on [I]my[I] boat wahoo flags fly over Marlin flags! I am very curious to learn how to planer fish well, I have a downrigger on my boat but am a novice using it. I DO want to learn how to fish A) a planer properly and B) for those Giant BFT's you guys have down there, talk about the big game fishing experience of a lifetime!!!!! Anyways, if you could unlock the video for me, I'll be forever in your debt!
