Leave the black sole shoes at home!
fishing with others: I put anything I might need- extra clothes, sunglasses, etc. in the absolute smallest bag I can find and then I try to find the most out of the way spot to store it on the boat.
eat/drink- 6 pack of sundrop, a can of pringles, and a couple of cans of vienna sausages. Never bring my own cooler. I'll drink em hot if I have to.
fishing with me: It doesn't bother me anymore to tell people to take their stuff back to their truck and lock it up so it doesn't get stolen... coolers, rods/reels, baits, secret lures, cd's, gaffs, bags and bags of groceries, you get my drift....now if it's extra ice or sundrop it can stay![]()
Bring as little as possible to get me through the day. Biggest thing is to come early (not late) to help load the boat and stay late to help with the cleanup. Don't show up and say I have to be back at the dock by...see ya! Next bring a jingle in your pocket to help with expenses as you know fishing is expensive! This will get you an invite back on the boat!![]()

Ask what you need to bring and bring JUST that...I've been guilty of bringing extra shit and the guys I fish with were nice enough to put up with it...I leave it all home now unless otherwise instructed.
Ask the Capt if you can bring him some grub...he's doing enough to prep for the trip. Bring good bait if you have it to spare...clothes, sun block etc...
But for me, the biggest thing is treat the boat right. I mean keep it clean and in order. Anticipate what the Capt wants and do it. Also, FISH HARD. And I don't just mean when there is action in the pit. The only way I sleep on an offshore trip is when I fall over and it happens since most days, I leave Richmond at 1am, drive to VA Beach, help load boat and shove off by 4am the latest...usually cannot sleep on ride out but I fish my ass off all day and will not quit. I've been out there dead tired, clearing grass non-stop for what seemed like hours (never asked the Capt to move out of it for a bit but wanted to) then BAM, we have 8 buff yellowfins hitting everything in the spread. Sleep on the way home, not while the lines are in the water. Any guy that fishes hard will earn some respect out there...everyone knows screw ups will happen but working hard out there for me is a given...
The most important thing is respect of my boat and equipment. Everything on my boat works and works well or it gets repaired ASAP! People ask me what they need to bring... I tell them food and drink. I'm not much for lots of beer drinking on the boat, dont get me wrong it has happened but not often. Assistance with the prep and cleanup will definately get you back for more killer action. I have a large cooler that holds all their food and drink, so coolers area out! I have all the fishing gear one man could want and more than I need, so tackle boxes are out! Change of clothes good idea, as long as they are in a small bag. And as mentioned by another member...KEEP THE BOAT CLEAN!
