    Gear ratio for White Marlin?

Assuming a single speed reel what gear ratio do you prefer for white marlin - a 4:1 ratio or a higher speed 6:1 ratio??

haha, let me rephrase if you could choose only between a 4:1 or a 6:1?? which one would it be? Unfortunately the Accurate 665 offers only those 2 ratios. I would think that the 6:1 might be a bit too high especially if dealing with bigger fish.

I was concerned about the higher gear ratio myself when considering the purchase of a set of Tyrnos. However, you are White Marlin fishing with reasonbly light drag I presume, so "power" is not that much of an issue. What is a major issue for me is the GD captains ( namely the Beast and Ron Levy) that insist on backing down at 10 kts. Seriously, it is much easier to keep up with your line on a boat backing down with the higher retrieve. If you have ever lost a White simply because you couldn't keep up with the boat, I think there would be no question as to going with the higher gear ratio in this application.

I also found out this summer that while dink fishing for whites and sails a high gear ratio can be your best friend when putting line back on the reel after several long dropbacks in order to make the hook come tight. 6:1 would not be that bad.

good points. Maybe I should go with the 6:1 then. At first I thought the 4:1 was too slow and the 6:1 was too high. But with a captain that goes fast in reverse a 6:1 wouldnt be that bad.

    Anybody else?

He told me that instead of spotting a car, the competition insisted he race in reverse

Don't you have to hook them before you put it in reverse and worry about retrieve ratios
