    Garmin GPS 72

Just got a Garmin GPS 72 as a backup GPS for $70 at Boaters World. Anyone have any experience with one of these? Anyone ever used the downloadable software? Is the software worth getting?

I just got the 76 at Boaters World, I will definitely be getting a BlueChart for it cause the base map is crap, otherwise it seems pretty nice.

The Bluechart will slow the unit down considerably. If you're just using it for a backup, you shouldn't need the cartography.

My advice would be to download the Mapsource software from the Garmin site, then call one of my very good friends (John McWhite of Profinder Charts---910-512-6700) and he can transfer all of your waypoints over to your handheld and also back them up on his (or your) computer. He will NOT sell or use any of your points---they are 100% safe. That way, if your GPS ever crashes, your points are safe. Doesn't matter the brand of your main GPS---he can transfer from any unit, to any unit.
