Got fish
Gags still a Chewing
Left the docks this morning at 0730 with a thick coating of frost everywhere and "sea fog" hovering aound the marina. Thoughts of the warm bed that I just left and my wife's 40th birthday weekend, I was starting to have doubt about trying to make a quick run and be back by 1pm, the time I promised her I would return. But my fishing partners for the day, my brother Scott who drove 3 hrs just to fish and my neighbor's son Blake were fired up and ready to go.
All bundled up like we were going snow skiing we broke the inlet to find a flat, dead a** ,calm ocean. Pushing the 23' Parker up to a 29kt cruising speed we made a quick run 3 miles for bait, then continued on an more easterly heading than I had run previously. About the 20 mile mark the depth finder starts glowing red with vertical specks hovering the bottom. If we were lucky, this would be the spot.
My second live bait to the bottom and the Penn Torque brings this to the surface.

Meanwhile Blake, instead of surfing with his buddies today, decides to get a workout with these. He struggled and put 3 keepers in the cooler.

With Blake battling it out on the port side Scott quietly pulls in a 17" Flounder followed by a some nice Queen snapper. Then he get the pull and puts 2 in the boat.

After being on the hook for a little less than 2 hours we had or limit for the day and cruised in to the "hill" arriving a little afternoon, just in time to go shopping with the wife. Not a bad way to spend some family time with your bro and introduce a teenager to some good botom fishing. The day ended up like this:

Again my hats off to my Mentors, Slip and Biscuit!
Next week it's back to spearfishing as it was very difficult to watch the anchor fall to 60 ft from top sides. The ocean and water clarity inshore was the best I've seen since spring time. And to add insult to injury some spearfishermen brought in a 60+ pound Cobia today "harversted" on a wreck 18 miles out

Happy Bday to Mrs Bottom Dweller who has to be one heck of a lady to let you go fishing on her special day!
Congrats to you Keith for figuring this gag fishing thing out so quickly. The credit belongs to you.
Glad you got to enjoy what turned out to be a beautiful day on the water, in spite of the frosty start.

Fresh Grouper as a birthday gift... I wouldn't mind that!
Haven't been on a flat sea like that in ages, makes me sea sick!
No fishing this W.E. so the boys exchanged two bags of corn for 3 organic bambies...
