    Frying Pan Tower 11-13-2011

Well the weatherman finally got it right. Our fishing crew went from 5 down to 3 Friday nite then Saturday morning our third member bailed so he could work on his boat. While we were loading the boat a guy walked up to talk fishing and said his ride had boat problems so we invited him to tag along. It was a slick ride out to Frying Pan Tower no beating and bouncing. Since we had no pogies we put a spread of dead cigar minnows out and within 5 minutes we had a king cut off the bait so I put it in free spool and peeled off line and he came back and hit it again. 10 minutes later the skunk was off the boat. We had 2 more cut offs that our new crewmember missed since he did not know much about king fishing and free spooling for a short strike.

We then decided to head about 5 miles SW and try our luck at some bottom critters. No need to anchor since there was no wind. We caught around 50 Black sea bass that would have been keepers in the 3 to 6 lb. range had it been last month. We probably caught another 40 or 50 beeliners and snapper that we had to release as well. Our only grouper was 2 in. short so back down he went. Ended up only keeping a few grunts from the bottom. That is the reason it could have been a great day instead of a great day. A great day would have been being able to keep all the good eats we sent back. After watching the fleet of boats that moved over to where we were slaying kings we switched back to trolling. Had 2 quick cut offs within 5 min. by our new deck hand. I had another short strike so again I free spooled and low and behold a nice bailer dolphin came to hook. We caught 3 more kings and a bonita before getting the lines in at 3:30 for the ride back. All in all it was a good day but it could have been a great day had the season not been closed on BSB and snappers.

Saw a whale on the way in but about the time I got my camera out he decided to stay down. We ran by this on the way in as it was coming across the shoals. I thought I was on the Mississippi river. Frying Pan Tower 11-13-2011-dsc_0077.jpgFrying Pan Tower 11-13-2011-dsc_0095.jpg
