    Friday Hoo-ness (updated)

We decided to take a little boat ride on Friday to look for some hoos - had been a while since I'd heard a report, and longer since I've been out, but it's almost October - gotta be some hoos around...

Broke the inlet about 0530 **** a gorgeous very large moon lighting the way and settled in for a couple hours of boat riding...

as we get to the stream, the light chop flattened out and started picking up some scattered weed - time to set the spread.

15 minutes in, the planer pops - but nothing there - strike 1

a little while goes by and the bridge pole screams and goes silent, damn, start dumping and it's fish on... short fight later and first fish in the box - nice citation class hoo. start working the area - planer pops again - again no one home - strike 2. A couple short strikes **** no joy and a sail swats at the long rigger, missed it on the dropback...

a while later another nice hoo goes airborne on the bridge pole again - got him on ice.

Planer goes off again - stinky - Strike 3...

and then nothing for a long time - decided to look for a good weed line, as the smaller clumps were starting to form up.

We crossed nice looking rip to find the most ball jellies I've ever seen in one place and 2 airborne hoos find both long riggers - one citation, one slightly smaller - both get a nice ice bath and a free ride home. Worked that area for a while, but no other strikes.

Gorgeous ride home and 4 hoos to show for the day. Fal Fishing is starting to heat up...

Left my camera at home, and had to use the video camera - pics are a bit grainy...

Nice day going on your fish Fred. Was suppose to go today and I got the call at 4 a.m. as I was going through La Grange. Owner pulled the plug.
