Wind laid down midday today, so we decided to go looking for near shore flounders we heard had started showing up recently.
Early afternoon departure on light NW & calm seas found us 12 miles off near a wreck. 67 degrees pretty green water. Big mark of bait turned out to be hungry cigar minnows. We quickly put a few dozen in the live well and started looking for flatfish, using carolina rigged cigar minnows.
Didn't take long to find them
This one was hungry for a bit of Biscuit!
Never been bit by a flatfish before and this one did not want to let go!
The wind did an about face and before long started cooking out of the SW. Still plenty fishable, but a pain having to constantly re anchor.
Once we got positioned right, it was on!
Something large ate one of Slip's flounders on the way up and took off for China, through the earth! At the same time, I noticed that my minnows were not making it to the bottom whole.
Had to investigate, of course
A little wire trace made for a fine time with school kings on the light spinning stuff
Happy to have seen a plan work out, we kept 4 flounders for dinner, releasing everything else and headed for the hill with daylight to spare.
Nothing at all unusual about this Friday the 13th, until we got to the boat ramp
Jason, Freddy and all their friends were going for a ride!
Fine day on the water. Today marks the earliest start ever on our near shore flounder & mackerel fishing.
Let the games begin!
