I figured box's world was a good place to ask this- do any of you have experience using food dehydrators?
I am looking for any and all info. I am not really interested in making jerky (yet) more looking into dehydrating fruits and veggies-
Thanks

Cabela's. Thats where I got mine. WOrks equally well on deer or bananas
I've got one like pictured below. Mostly I use it for jerky, but it does a pretty good job on fruit and herbs - Not nearly as good as the commercial type freeze dryers, but for $50.00 a pretty good job...
Turns out my mom had one she bought last year at Bed Bath Beyond and she had never even opened it. So I have been messing around with it this weekend.
The results so far....
Banana Chips- cut a little to thick, but tasty- next batch will be better.
Sweet Potato Chips- cut too thick- thrown in the trash- tooth breakers
Strawberries- successful enough that Mom ran off with the sack of them.
Flavored Zucchini and Squash Chips- 2 Thumbs way up!!!!
Green Bean crunchies- so far epic fail, but not quite done yet
I feel like this is a low end machine that my mom bought, so I will probably upgrade after I am sure I am gonna stick with it.
Apples and pineapples work pretty well too. Again - figuring out how thick is the hard part.
Box- From what I can figure, for me to make a 3 pound bag of anything it will probably be the 2012 or maybe 2013 BFT season!!
I will see about brining some tasty snacks down with me though.
You want me to put the dried bananas in the coffin or up on the bridge with da Beast![]()
