I learned a very valuable lesson this past fall. There was a push in warm water into Virginia in December and we decided to give the Tuners one more shot for the year. I dusted of my flouro Tuna rigs that had been sitting in my boat in Hatteras from the spring that were made up with Spro Heavy's. As I was tying them onto the 50's each and every line broke as I checked my knot. The main line in this casae was 80 lb and my buddy (Tuna Taxi) assured me his line was not bad. I cut the Spro's off and put on new ones--- no breaks. Apparantly, they corrode enough around the salt environment over time to make them just rough enough. I still use Spro Heavy's as this is how I tell between mono and flouro leaders (Spro Power swivels for mono), but will now replace all wind on swivels after a short period of time.

    Glenn,
Over the past year I have phased out of heavy spro swivels for the most part, on everything except BFT. I have started using the regular spro swivels. $11 for a pack of 50, and they still wind on, and catch fish just as good. They are stronger than the leading brand and not much larger than the heavys. plus no rough edges.

I agree 100% on the Spro power swivels. Way much cheaper and I have never had a failure with one. I just use the heavy's to be able to tell the difference in mono and flouro leaders as I throw mono leaders away after each trip (if used). If there is a better way to distinquish bertween mono and flouro, I love to know it.

You could make your mono 20' (4 pulls) and your flouro 30'+(6 pulls+) ??? You would know by length.

I noticed this too. For Example SeaGuar now has a "Premium flouro that is about $7.00 more per coil than the standard SeaGuar. According to their web site, both are 100% flourocarbon, but the "premium is maybe (?) a smaller diameter for the same lb test?

BOX got this one spot on gang. Without gettin into a bunch of stuff I previously posted someplace there is one huge difference in what is being marketed to ya....There's the real deal..Seaguar, Vanish, and others then there's the snake oil...fluro coated....coated...R U Chtin ME...coated

Yeah go get Ur self some no name mono and run it through a bath of fluoro suspended in say acrylic carrier and whamo jamo you been cheated Floyd...

If it doesn't say pure or 100% then it ain't and dats dat...Spent more than 10 years of my life with dis stuff .....the friggin extruders to make it have to be pure freakin hastolloy or inconel cause when you heats it up too much it makes swiss cheese out of stainless...This stuff is wiked tough to make...why it's so expensive....expensive machinery, lots of skill, and raw material cost is very high........Don't be like Floyd
