    FlounderBiscuit 7/29 Report

after a long but enjoyable couple of days spent on the Bite Me looking for the elusive inshore sailfish(i think capt lee has them all penned up in a secret spot ) in the Capt Eddy Haneman Tournament friday and saturday, Nick Brandon and I checked the forecast and hatched a plan to chase flounders sunday. a crack o' 10:30 departure from the boat ramp found us looking for bait which was hard to find and required us a run to the north. we procured enough small finger mullet to last us a while and headed out masonboro inlet and anchored up on a sunken barge about 4 miles off of wrightsville beach. the fish were chewing big time......except they were all the wrong species. all of the tomtates, ringtails, seabass, and of course some trophy toads, made it hard to get a bait to the flattys. we managed a half dozen flounders with only 2 being keepers. Biscuit even managed to catch a 23" gag grouper(imagine that ) on flounder tackle.

a nasty storm was brewing to the south, so we pulled anchor and headed for the inlet to beat the rain which never materialized. no big deal as we met up with Godfather Lou and his "harem" at the Dockside bar for a cheeseburger and a couple cold ones. the sky cleared and we re-upped the livewell with a net full of tater chip sized pogies and out the inlet we go.

and they were chewing when we arrived....big time. we also found out that young brandon can hang with some of the big dogs of oyster toad angling like Holwachgot and SlipSlidin. you knuckleheads better hone your skills a little more for brandon is gonna eat your toads for lunch! the flounders were gnawing pretty good with a couple really hot and heavy bites where all three of us were hooked up. towards the end brandon had a good bite and bowed up on a fish that started to peel drag....no flounder here. we tied off the anchor line to the ball and made chase but the fish tailwhipped the braided line and was gone. bull red drum, cobia, shark.....who knows?

enjoyed our day guys....we need to do that more often. thanks for having us aboard Nick.
(we left the camera in the truck so only pictures we got were back at the house.....i think i would have filled up my camera card with the scenery around the dockside instead of silly fish though)

Sounds like a fun day, can't beat a little beer break in between fishing.

I know it was hard to leave Dockside with all the scenery I'm sure was walking around that place, gotta love it.

Good job guys! I may end up getting in on some of that action tomorrow depending on what the ocean looks in the morning---plan is to do a little sailfishing then groupering but if it's rough I know where I'll be....

Slip was denied his shot at them yesterday as the storms run him off to the house. Today he was after revenge! But the storms rolled in once again. We dodged them the best we could, but stayed wet all afternoon. Flounders did not mind the rain. A very good rising tide bite. All together more than two dozen fish in less than 3 hours of fishing. All smalls and just legal ones released.

You should have seen the toad fish! At least $ 500 worth at the Korean fish house! Geoff would be very proud of us today.

Scored a couple 3 foot long ribbon fish as well. They are brined, vacum packed and frozen already. I plan on catching a tournament winning king mackerel on one of them!

Thank you for taking me fishing brother Slip. No one I would rather enjoy this kind of afternoon with.
