Floss In Front of a Witch?

We lost a pretty good fish the other day, to a wahoo hitting the witch as it rode up to the SPRO on the wind-on, which happens all too often. I was thinking about tying a small piece of floss in front of the witch's head to keep it from riding up the leader. Any thoughts on this? Box?

Question: did it break way up the wind on? Or about 24" above the witch? Was it a re-used wind on from another trip?

It was cut off right below the SPRO on a brand new 30' Fluro leader. We saw the fish take off to the port side of the boat, then saw a snake wahoo go airborne and land on the witch.

I gotcha. Sounds like you had a "not wanted" doubleheader" on the same rig. I have heard of wahoo hitting the SPRO by itself too.
You could always experiment and see if it is worth taking the idea to another level. Take a toothpick and pin the witch head to the leader (stick the toothpick in the head hole of ther witch and break off the excess piece so it is flush with the top of the witch head so it still tracks correctly) only push the toothpick far enough to stop the witch but not to much or you will kink the leader or heat it up by pushing the toothpick in. Flouro does not take kindly to friction heat. This is same as bass fishing with the bullet weight and texas rig worm setup to keep the weight pinned to the worm to keep the whole rig down to the botom in heavy cover.

    COUNTRY BOY....

I AM DAZZLED BY YOUR COMMENT HERE.................PERPLEXED SOMEWHAT....

VERY SELDOM DO I ENCOUNTER THIS WITCH REMOVAL ...I DO NOTICE THAT HEAVY LURES RUN BACKWARDS TO THE SWIVEL...ESPECIALLY ON BLUE MARLIN

THE ONLY WAY THE SEA WITCH CAN RUN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION IS TO ALLOW THE FISH TO ENTER A NEW ZIP CODE........

TRY APPLYING A BIT MORE DRAG ONCE THE FISH IS ON BEFORE THE ROD COMES OUT OF THE HOLDER....THAT WILL SLOW HIM DOWN A BIT AND MAKE SURE YOU ARE PUTTING ON THE PROPER DRAG HEAT AT STRIKE AS WELL!

OTHER THAN THE ABOVE THOUGHTS....YOU MAY JUST BE ON A BAD LUCK STREAK

I've flossed my Moldcrafts to keep the inner skirt in while lure fishing, but for a sea witch or small Ilander while bait fishing...I just break off a toothpick or something. I've never had this happen with a sea witch, but it does happen on my small Ilanders and Moldcraft Outer skirts.

I think that is what happened, he hit the 50W on the way back, took off, and the witch shot up to the Spro. Happens to us a few times a year (usually they come back with about 20' of a 30' wind-on with no hook. 1st time it was bitten at the Spro) and usually I just write it off as Neptunus Rex's use tax, but that fish had some shoulders on it. I would have loved to get the War Stick in 'em.
