    floating gaff tip

it will happen to us all sooner or later, but your gaff will go in the drink if you use it long enough. most gaffs are hollow and won't float, x-tools will but i don't like them, fill the inside of your gaff with "Great Stuff foam and crack sealer and let it cure for a few days. if it goes over and pulls free of the fish, it will float. plus it also seems to cut down noise when putting it up or dropping it.

Gofshn, you are right about them going into the drink. Past 2 years I lost 3 of them that way. I never thought of filling them with foam. Thanks for the tip. Guess what I'm doing this weekend?

yes, it appeared in saltwater sportsman a while back, but i had to learn the hard way when fishing the ms. and tenn. rivers and 40-60 pound catfish were ripping the gaff from my hand in the swift water behind the dams.the idea actually started by filling the handle with syrofoam balls, like a bean bag uses, but always had those damn little white balls all over the boat when the grip started wearing out on the back end.

a quick add-in. that foam spray if you have ever used it can be messy. But you can use gasoline, paint thinner or mineral spirits on a rag to clean off any foam residue you get on your hands or gaff handle.
