    Flat line distance....

This way back thing has me thinking about average distance from the boat that you fellas out there run your flat lines at. 2nd to the short line position (equal to the short rigger on my boat) my flats get crushed more than anything else.

I know that I like mine close enough that I can see what is going on with each one but also just far enough back to let the wash of the prop camo it's presence as it darts side to side and skips or swims. Plus I like it close enough to my teaser where I can bring it into play if needed.

    Just a thought

I like to keep mine a few feet behind the dredges or equal with bridge teasers if we are not pulling a dredge.

I swear I have never understood this 3rd, 4th, 5th,.... wake back thing. Is that going into or going down sea?---- Swell or wind chop?---With the current or against it?---- Hell, I can't even tell what is wake and what is waves in 3' or greater seas.
As a matter of physics, the distance from the transom to any given wake is going to vary significanly depending on the length of boat under displacement., i.e., is much shorter in a 26' boat than a 46' boat.

I dunno what is right, I just go with what feels right on a given day--- some days shorter--- some days a bit longer--- most days I experiment a little. Generally, just aft of the end of the teaser (and obviously behind the dredge) seems to work best for me.

For me, when the bait "swims and pops" in the correct cadence while clipped down, I'm at the correct distance. Up sea, down sea, sea conditions will dictate how far but mainly I run them about 5-8ft in front of my "oh my god don't say you pull one of those" large spreader bars which is run short down the middle off of my rocket launcher.

Different boats have different sweat spots, for us it's about 30' off the transom.

In the clear water off the back...doesn't much matter what boat is is each boats "clear spot" is different. Some days the "clear spot" may be closer or further back. Sometimes adjusting your trim tabs makes a difference. I think the big thing is to get them out of the wash of the boat, into the clean water and they will get hit more!

It varies but generally If its plugs... I want them darting in and out of the very back end of the wash, That seems to work best for us. nakeds, Ilanders, hoo skirts etc..a little farther out of the wash
