    Angry Fishing Rods And Gravity

I'm not talking about the fact that they don't float, but I'm beginning to think there is some special gravity issue with fishing rods.

Why is it that when somebody is baiting up, unhooking a fish or fixing their rig the fishing rod becomes magnetically drawn to the deck? My old man used to go bonkers when I put a rod on the deck, and now I'm starting to snap at other people too. There's a dozen rod holders on the boat and nobody can fight the attraction so it doesn't get stepped on and broken? I could have saved a bunch of $$$ by not buying rod holders if nobody's going to use them.

I'm also beginning to conclude that this special gravity not only pulls rods to the deck, but that they have their own gravitational fields as well, specifically the tips. Unless I'm fishing by myself, inevitably everybody else's fishing rod tip ends up right next to mine. I understand that there's going to be a preferred side of the boat to fish on, but why do all the rods end up pointed into one corner? Then eventually I get fed up and move to another corner, but ten mintes later..... yep, they have the entire f%!#ing boat to fish from, but nobody can resist the pull.

This is one of the little things that is starting to drive me nuts. Is it just me and the stooges I fish with, or does everybody's boat have an Einstein's Theory Of General Relativity issue with fishing rods?

The handle won't turn in the rod holder. There's a special sensor installed in the reel that won't allow it to turn unless it is out of the rod holder, pressed against a gimbal (not the body) or on the deck. No one knows how to turn the handle while it is in the rod holder....big pet peeve of mine.

Just be sure before you snap at folks that it isn't your tip going towards theirs.

It's like bird hunting. It always seems like the guy next to you is angling closer to you instead of walking parrellel.

Handle won't turn in the rod holder..... The phenomenon is even more extensive than I suspected!

Bert, you're 100% right about walking in the field, happens to me all the time when we're deer hunting. No matter how we split up, 50 yards in we're looking at each other. But in the cockpit of a boat it's fairly easy to tell where you're at.

Offshore, it's even worse on my boat. I've got a teak cockpit deck.

    Frank,

Fess up!!!! You got that idea from the one your wife makes you wear around the house for those times you forget to put the toilet seat down, or you fail to throw the dirty clothes in the hamper, or the multitude of other things she gets peeved at.

Lets not forget the weight swinging around like a helcopter rotor. Like you, Ive got plenty of rodholders(9 in the cap, 6 in the leaning post, 6 up top, and 6 more up towards the bow, plus the storage in the cabin). Those people who lay the rd down or leave weights swinging just grate my last good nerve...

I dont have many rules, dont bring beer(unless you bring enough for everybody), stow all your gear in the cabin(not under foot), and have a good time...but I become an instant A-Hole when you lay my rods down or hook things in my grips or guides.

I always used to use 550 cord an stainless steel clips to lock my rods an reels onto the rod holders so there was no way my rods would end up on the deck but of course I never had a fighting chair either! That forced everyone to either leave the rod in the holder or use their body to fight the fish! Hope this helps!

    Tight lines,
    Jeremy
