Fishing with my 2 favorite fishing partners

I had yesterday of work and after I checking the weather and it looked like it was going to be a very smooth day I talked my wife into taking a day off to go fishing. Fishing is not really her thing and she gets sea sick pretty easy. She supports my hobby more than I could ever ask, by telling me to go whenever I want. When it comes to equipment because if I mention I want something someday she thinks I need it and goes and gets it. I couldn't ask for a better wife and friend in more ways than one.

Daniel our 8 year old has been itching to go as well, he did very well last year then this winter on 2 back to back trips he got sea sick so I have been waiting for a smooth day to get him out again, he really loves fishing and I didn't want to make him think he would get sick every time.

Okay so finally the fishing report. We get up nice and early I check the weather again and its all systems go. The plan is to go out about 30 miles and chase some Mahi and if we're lucky a Sail-dog. I have 20 baits rigged and ready with 3 packs of spares.

Launch is smooth remember my wife has basically no experience boating just the few times she has come out with me that comes to play later. Weather is as forecast head out at 30+ mph to basically flat seas.

We have the first line in at 0640, my wife drove and Daniel and I set the gear. We put out the normal spread witches with hoos and a long line Islander the spread was a combo of B/W, P/W. I spent the first hour clearing weeds no stop.

About 0730 the wind picked up big time and the seas got real sloppy and I’m like oh man this is not going to be good. Just then we get the first bite I ask my wife if she wants to reel it in she said she would keep driving Daniel helps clear lines and we boat a little gaffer. My wife did an outstanding job driving as sloppy as it was and the wind was really pushing us.

We marked that spot and did a big circle next time through another bite we missed.

Third time through another bite Daniel lands his first Mahi and another little gaffer now it is really rough and we start trolling in I figured it was too rough for them to push in hard.

We picked everything up at about 0900 and slowly make our way in, by this time my wife is not feeling to good and is not as confident in her boat handling abilities as I am. Daniel is doing great he even took a little nap.

So I head for Cape Lookout figuring with the NE wind it will calm going that way sooner and we can check out the light house. We get in slow down eat a sandwich and go checkout the light house then cruise looking for horses.

All in all it was a good day and my wife and Daniel hung in like troopers.

When we got home Daniel helped clean up everything and he feed the family Mahi fingers for dinner. He’s back in the game and ready for the next trip.

    Sorry for the long report.

Awesome! I don't think I've seen anyone as excited as my wife with a mahi on the line. Fishing as a family is hard to beat.

Looks like you have a quite capable mate in the works - great smile and he know how to hold a fish for the camera.

There's no better way to fish than with the wife, the children and when you actually catch fish, it's the most memorable times of our lives.
Way to go and thanks for sharing your fishing trip!
