    Fishing in Marathon

I'm going down to Marathon in two weeks. My boss who I mate and Capt. for has a place down there. I'm also going to have access to a 21 CC skiff and a 27 CC w/ Twins (I think its a HydroSport). This is my boss' 2nd or 3rd winter down there since retirement. So he's going to know pretty much what the deal is down there but i'm looking to do some trolling or some sort of pelagic species fishing. Can I troll on a 21 cc skiff on a nice day for sails, mahi, blackfin(?) Etc?? Any tips about the keys would be helpful. I'm more acustomed to Jersey fishing rather then down south.

Most guys live bait for sails down there... ballyhoo have been everywhere and are not hard to catch if you can throw a net.

Also can catch them trolling just like you would for whites...

I used to drag my 21 to Marathon every year, and caught plenty of sails (and just about everything else).

The sailfish will be just outside the reef, about 5 miles off. See if you can load your baitwell with pilchards, cast net along the beach just before dawn. Or else chum up some ballyhoo on the patch reefs and either cast net or use a hair hook

If you get the weather, you can run out to the hump (about 20 miles). Chum with live pilchards, or fast troll with very small jets or feathers WWWTFB for blackfin. The humps are also loaded with amberjack down deep

Thanks guys, I'm ok with the cast net but my boss has the cage loaded with hoos so we're all ready to roll. Plus the boat show is that weekend as well so I'm fired up!!
