I'd bet a nickel that with the warm up coming toward the end of the week and into the weekend, that eddy will push out.

    That IS nasty though!!

Problem looks to me that the cold water wedged so far down inshore and past lookout almost down to cape fear this past winter that it is hung up and continuing to blend in the stream. Hence the kink and offshore 200-300 fathom area that is staying perpindicular to the 100 fathom curve vs parallel to it like usual. If you get a east coast shot, you can see it better from a zoomed out perspective.

It looks outfront like it does out off of the 000's all year long with the blending eddies.

BTH, Wouldn't you think that the transition from NW to S SW winds would cause that to push out and backfill?

I sure would think so. But that is stubborn volume of water compared to wind strength. I would think even 20-30 mph winds for a few days from the NW or SSW couldn't budge that volume of water with a knot or 2 of current in it as well as because of the short fetch on those wind speeds and durations near our coastline. Any NW or NNW wind will keep the warm water farther offshore like it did this bluefin season.

Now what we need to happen is the wind blow a while longer and/or get stronger with a huge fetch. That might be a different story in terms of creating waves to blend and move water and create different current. Remember wave height is determined by 3 things. Fetch = distance the wind will blow over. Wind speed and wind duration. NE ,SE or E wind scientifically should do the trick and close the cycle at least that what my weather and climate prof would have said at ECU.

    Site?

That really puts the temps in perspective. I've never seen a temp chart like that--where is it from?

TURN WHAT AROUND? WHAT DEAD ZONE ARE YOU SPEAKING ABOUT? I SEE A LOT OF WIND IN YOUR PICTURE BUT NO SST CONDITIONS.........

ALL I SEE IS A WIND CHART CHARLIE....

"FETCH?"..."BACKFILL".....I FETCHED THESE TWO ANIMALS ON SATURDAY...

THE FOLLOWING IS A REAL DEAD ZONE SST SHOT TAKEN FROM THE RUN-OFF SATELITTE APRIL 24, 2010:

MORE RUN-OFF SST D-O-D PHOTOS AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST

AND THE ATTACHED PICTURE BELOW PROVIDED BY CHARLIE IS A WIND CHART NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH SEA SURFACE TEMPS AND HOPEFULLY WILL NOT DISCOURAGE PEOPLE FROM COMING TO MHC TO FISH....

THE ONLY TRUE DEAD ZONE I SEE IS IN THE PIT OF THE RUN-OFF.
