Brought the boat to the farm when we came down Friday.n Wanted to scout the black waters of the Edisto near the farm and the club. We looked at a couple of the landings on the way home Sat after the hunt. Picked the one closest to the club. It was a little ramp into a small lake off the river. We got over the trees blocking the way just to find that the channel into the river was too shallow and narrow for the boat to navigate. We made our way back to the landing, and I myself felt lucky to get my feet on solid ground when we got there.
Landing number two, the water looked good. Looked great actually, but the ramp was broken and we decided not to attempt to launch the boat at this landing.
Landing number three looked like it would work. Not too steep, and had a little water. Little water is the key word. We managed to catch a few fish in the first hole we tried. Red breast and a catfish. We fished deeper pockets of water below fallen trees and along the bends. Shad played a factor when choosing the holes we fished. Had to have shade and some water. I fished catawaba worms on a small wire hook. I tied a lot of hooks today. I do use a cork but did not have the stem in it. I had to add a little weight to my normal rig due to the swift current. BeagleMan fished catawabas and crickets. As we were fishing our way back to the landing a car pulls up to the landing with some music playing very loud. It sounded like a flute or something. The guy got out and walked up to the edge of the landing from what we could see was having some sort of indian ceremony. I could understand some words like edisto indians and catawaba indians. And he apologized on his way out the parking lot if he disturbed us. He then drove down a road parallel the river with the music still playing.
Fish totals for the day were 50 bream and red breast and one cat fish. Twenty of the smaller ones were kept alive and put in the pond back at the farm.
As far as the edisto river goes, BeagleMan says they can give it back to the Indians. Not much water and lots of hazards in the little water there is.
