Welcome KVDman to SFC. Guessing form your name that your a bass fishermen. KVD is the man, love listing to him talk fishing even if I am a salt water guy.
I know of the pounds you speak of but have never fished then. Capt Jay Kavanagh on the board here will know, but my guess is you will find Red Drum in there. I would try the old standby "Johnson's Silver Minnow spoon in the gold color. Gulp shrimp in sugar & spice color worked very slow would be another good choice. Send Jay a PM and let us know what he says...

Hide- My Wifes Logged On
Those ponds are mostly fresh water. there are a lot of bass and bluegills in there.
I use to wear them out with a flyrod when I was a kid.
Cape Pines campground was a good place to fish.

Duck Ponds....
According to your map, those are the ponds on the back road (Eagle Pass Rd) in Hatteras Village. Should be mostly salt. I don't think there is alot of fish living in those water. I dont know if any of the local kids fish those, but they hammer the ponds in Frisco and Avon for bass mostly. Oh yeah, keep a close eye for Cottonmouths, too.

Jeremy is right, they are salt ponds fed from the slash--- I've swatted many a skeeter while cleaning fish on what is shown as Issacs pond on the map--- we always called it Harrison's pond or the Church pond. Anyway, the lower pond is about silted in now but we used to catch a bunch of yearling drum in the spring and early summer and mullet in the early fall in the the lower pond. The upper pond used to be a tad bit deeper and had a good number of yearling drum as well.----- I ain't for sure if there are any snakes on these ponds as the skeeters would surly eat them alive---- just kidding, there are some nasty snakes in that marsh--- Elmo Harrison killed a 6' rasttlesnake on the bank (in his yard) back in the '70's.
As a bit of history, I was told that before hatteras got a paved road (1950's I believe), the duck pond held a tremendous amount of black ducks, Widgeon, and
Pintail and that it was corned as much as possible in the winter by the locals as an easy source of red meat--- in other words corned as much as they could afford.

Im a bit torn here, some say yes, some say no, I'm Probably going to see if there is some sort of path leading back to a part of it. (watch out for cottonmouths of course!) and fish it for the hell of it. Sense I'm going there on a budget i wont be able to get a boat, but i am going to fish the piers, sound shore possibly, and everywhere else i wont get kicked out of. I know i probably sound like and idiot. but any more tips? C'mon, I'm a Bass fishermen.

I think Admin is going to let me have this space
KVDam,
I won't hold being a bass fisherman against ya, I used to be one too! While I still enjoy to freshwater fish from time to time, offshore own's my heart now. If you haven't given it a whirl you really ought to, you'll be in the middle of the best of it. Good ground's and great Captain's are right in front of you! Don't hurt the "cottonmouth's" they're pet's
. I promise nothing get's the heart pumping like the sudden movement of reed's caused by one of those fat fella's! Frank

throw a spinnerbait in there and you will catch either one. plastic on a jig head or just a hook will catch them also.
