We ran our maiden trip today. Had an awesome crew onboard. Kevin from the board had fished her several times when she was up in VA Beach and had nothing but good to say about her. The boat ran like a champ but we found a couple things we have to get right. Thats what this trip was about, a tune up and that was why the rate was low. No tail gate exhaust, no wash, flat seas the scene was perfect.
Now the bad. I set the 10 line spread looks great and within 5 minutes the lt short goes off, got him on get in the chair......... gone shit! then the lt long goes off same drill, double damn!!! put them out, stand back and watch ...... bounce bounce goes the planer, planers up, got him on, oh no, crank crank crank WHAM tight and gone WTF!!! Off we go again, chuck a couple bailers in the box, things are looking up. Was watching the teaser line dragging and I hear, "KING, KING ON THE SHORT! All the sunned about a 40 lb Hooskie airs out about 6' and crashes the bait. Cut her so fine it didn't even release from the clip..... just put a bullet in my head! We are in the middle of a turn and RRRRR the bridge pole goes off, chair, chair, right in the middle of the pass down.... boink and gone, what can you say, I just hung my head. These hooks are so sharp they will make your eyes bleed. An hour of trolling should have had 2 Black fin, 1/2 doz gaffers and 3 hoo's in the box and all we have to show is 2 gaffers, The bite lasted about an hour and 1/2. We wandered back to the rock, found a break and pulled off 6 more gaffers. We stayed till we could and went home. Saw Marty's Hoo for the day. Tomorrow's another day.
