FISHIN DAYS BACK IN ACTION

Well after 13 weeks on the hill and missing the Swansborrow, Big Rock and hottest Blue Marlin bite that I can ever remember we're back. Still got a few things to finish up but she looks a lot different. If you have never been to Wancheese and are planing to go to get boat work done get used to the phrase, "TOMORROW" I got news for you, tomorrow never comes! We were booked for the Hatteras Invitational, Tim gave them till wed morn and told them we are putting in today weather you are done or not. Wed at 1600 the lift came and put us in, not done! Once in the water we still had to put on the riggers and make sure the throttles were set, NOT! Quick call the throttle guy! It was to be expected after putting in a new helm, just needed a little tweak and we're good. 1830 Tim is off and I drove down to Hatteras Harbor. Tim pulls in at 2130. We still got to put in the rod holders cause they were going to paint the covering boards, NOT! Put up the curtains and rig the out riggers. the cabin is trashed from the Corrian guy and the crew, tools, dust and dissaray. We worked till 0430 cleaning up. 0630 sun is high in the sky, I jump up and think we missed it, check the clock, whew, lines in isn't till 0900. Still got to get breakfast, bait and ice, no worries, I'll do the rigging on the way out. I forgot it's Hatteras and the run is only an hour. Good thing we are pulling a few plugs. Quick snell a half doz dinks and rig them up.

Throttles back lines in at 1000. The bite was hot, Whites, Blues and Sails. It's a 50 boat tournament and only a select few had the mix right. At about 1300 I'm standing between the rt short and long, ZZZT on the short, again zzzt. It's an anglers tournament so I can't touch the rods, DAMN!!!!! Whitey is calling and I can't play. About the same time the rt long goes ZZZZTT, DOUBLE DAMN, double header Whiteys!!! All I have to do is drop both the levers and let them go but I can't touch the rods and the crew just isn't responding. Drop back I say......... well they did for about 2 seconds them tried to set the hook. We're using circle hooks you can't do that, you got to feed them forever. These fish wanted to be caught, they must have came back 5 times each and still couldn't come tight. OMG just put a bullet in my head, I can't watch this anymore! Jack and Christopher, Tim's younguns made short work of a few gaffers throughout the day so we had some meat to take home anyway.

Fri AM, Tim tells me before we leave the dock, " The mate can hook a fish and pass it to the Jr angler. If I tell you Whitey is in the spread GAG HIS ASS and give it to Christopher!!!" We picked at a few nice gaffers and at about 1000 I hear Tim say, Whitey on the rt long Whitey on the rt long. The 2 crew were standing right next to the rod and didn't move. I busted in between them and dropped the hammer, off with the clicker and let her go. After about a 15 sec drop I slowly pushed it up and watched the rod bend over, Okey doke, Chris was already in the chair, give him the rod and say hold on tight for a bit while we get some stuff out the way. I believe Chris is only 9 or 10 yr old. After a littler coaching and a little backing up we had her to the back of the boat and she was gagged but managed to spit it before we could get pics at the stern. Fri was a slow bite, 50 boats fishing and only 4 or 5 getting releases 10 fish released.

We managed 1st place Jr angler and 14th over all last I heard. Not bad for only fishing 2 out of 4 days in a 6 day tournament. Tim is a great guy and awesome capt. it's like we are on the same wave length, I don't have to say anything when I am in the pit, he sees what I am doing and helps me out. If I say I'd like to bring a fish in on one side of the boat or the other, done! Tim its a pleasure fishing with you, I love it and can't wait to get back out there!!

God I love this job!!!

I love the last pic of the little guy, looks like a NASCAR driver getting his sponsor drink in on the interview.
