FISH KILL!!!!
Well today things finally came together, a couple good fishing buddies, slickcam, and most important fish died aboard the little rig!!!!
I was joined by one of my fellow coworkers John and good friend Phil, rolled out of Town Ck. at 5:15am as planned only to be chased back to the dock and shelter when a rain squall pushed in from the beach. 20 min. later it was over and we high tailed it to the inlet and down south we went. Little choppy for the first 10 miles behind the passing squall then it fell out with a occasional ground swell. Came across grass trying to form up in 17ftms. so we set out and soon found a pallet which was lifeless. Start working on south 20ftms. we get a couple short strikes then a Sail comes in window shopping but quickly disappears. As it was last Monday I was ready to jump in it was dead, but also like Monday 1pm the nibbles started. We move down into the low 400's, close to our last trip.
I'm preparing another pack of little soldiers when the planer jumps, missed? then the 80W does something I have only seen twice, give up some line and the drag growls, almost scary: what have we hook'd one of those Russian Subs that have been cruising the east coats? Unable to slow the run we clear everything but the WWB and move Phil to the rod and start quartering to gain line. Fish stays deep and after 10min. finally comes to the surface, fish missed on the first shot but second pass got hooked between the belly and small fins below the gill plates. I put the steel to a pig, solid 60lb. stud in the cramped fish box.
The ice has been broken when the WWB come down from the center rigger and screams and screams and well you get the picture
Phil gets on the rod when the fish goes ballistic and goes very deep into the braid on a sizzling run, again we turn to give chase, gain line, give it up, after 15 minutes the line goes slack
I sure would like to have got to see the size of that pig!! I work down into the 40-62ftms break near the Hole and pass over some bottom #'s we fished earlier this season when the planer jumps and shortly we put another citation fish into the jammed up box.
Another pass and the poor BWC Mini Jag from the last trip gets blasted, a good 30lber joins the party in the bow. Start marking bait when the WWB now carrying a special Capt. Joe Shutes color combo gets piled onto and soon we have passenger #4, a twin to the last one. Next pass the BWC gets it again and our finally guest of the day in loaded. We tried until 5pm to get the final fish for our limit but the bite had fizzled so stow the gear and get the pointy end headed to MHC carrying alot of extra weight up front.
Could not have asked for a more beautiful ride in, 30kts and a long following swell. We did encounter a squall in 20ftms. that put down a huge spout but never got to the water, not quick enough get the camera out before it pulled back up. It went one way, we another. Great day for us, patience payed off and moved around until we found the bite!

If Ignorance is bliss, Why aren't more people happy?
That's a great way to get back in the saddle. Darn nice box of hoos.

I definately need to invest in a big fish bag, the main box does fine for 30-40lbers but the fat boys, thats a different story

Roger
Great report and nice job on the Hoo's, what a nice problem to have " oh this fish is too big for the fish box", you know that is a very good reason to get a bigger boat.
