ok this has happened to me a couple of times so i was wondering if its happened to u,
have u ever landed a fish that wasn't hooked at all but got lassoed around your line?
dad caught a horse Speckled Trout one night fishing for old Drum..the trout swallowed the big piece of mullet and was caught in his throat. The large circle hooks never stuck em.

When Fly fishing for False Albacore one day, I caught one on the fly that suddenly took off. After one heck of a run, there was another that was wrapped by it's tail in the leader. One hooked, one wrapped.
got that twice with wahoo on the downrigger ... both times saw the downrigger rod jiggle not a bounce and ran over and cranked it to pop out the clip and lasso the suckas.... quick reflexes pay off....one of the said fish was a slob of about 80
Look closely at this white marlin from the last century; ie pre digital technology. The lure is looped over the top bill; the hook was not in the fish it had wrapped around the bill and locked under the leader effectively lassoing the marlin in to the boat.
While fishing at CBBT my brother reeled in a 14" grey trout, just as he was slinging it in the boat a blue attacked and as a result of the extra weight they both hit the side of the boat, ended up back in the drink. Will the trout was hooked pretty good and the blue was still on so he gave it another go with a little more heave and landed them.
bet mac he wouldnt freegaff one of the 50-60lb aj's swimming under the boat this summer...lost that bet and got a HELLUVA LAUGH, but mac won and he got that sumbeeech.
i somehow lassoed a flounder one time , hook and line got caught up around its neck, no hook in the fish , was wierd.
We caught a king mackerel on tiny spro swivel one time. The fish mossed the bait and the line cut a notch her body at the base of the tail and locked the swivel in. The fish was not lassoed or anything. Proves the point to always keep the line tight. We ended up winning money on that fish.
