Alright its finally time to post some pictures. Two post about this dang piroque so far and I have yet to show you guys the finished pictures. Well here it is, post #3 and some finished pics. I have completed the paint and she is almost ready to go. Have to touch up a couple of the paint edges that bled a bit. Minor stuff.
Here she is. My winter project the took me well into the summer to complete…
She will be properly christen this weekend as “Big E”… A name that everybody affectionately called my Grandfather. I figured it was only fitting, since it was with him that a crawled into a canoe for the first time as a very young boy. I still vividly remember those trips down the rivers of Michigan with my grandfather calmly telling me when to paddle and when to sit still. It was with him, that I tipped my first canoe, sending us both into the chilly water. A spider had fallen into the boat when we brushed through some branches and I went bazerk…. That scenario ended with the pair of us running feet first through a gnarly set of rapids… Gramps got all bruised up on the backside and I got all bruised up on the pride. Good times with a man who is no longer paddling any rivers on this earth. I was surprised to find that as I built this little boat, I thought more of him than I did about the build. Wasn’t expecting that, but I was very happy to discover memories that I had mothballed for quite some time. What started as a project to promote some summer time fun for Kimi and I quickly turned into a tribute to one of the best men in anybody lives, Grand Dad… In the case mine… The “Big E”. Sorry bout that spider Grandpa… Hope this makes up for it!

Sorry Marty couldn’t do it…. Whats under that paint is between me and the sander! Just remember, this ain’t no rental piroque… This is the Big E… Had to paint it the same colors as Grand Dads old chevy truck… I left the inside bare for ya though…. Hope it brings back some good memories from yesteryear!
That all I’ve got for now guys. Its been a fun project. I am planning an another project real soon. My father needs a skiff so he can test out the waters of Seneca Lake in upstate NY. He just moved in and the urge to harass the musky is killing him. If your ever up that way and see a 16’ skiff with the lines of a Carolina Sportfisher, you know who built her… Time to get started on that one!
