Myself and Clint slipped out around lunch today since we couldn't pass up such a slick day on the ocean. Caught a well full of pogies pretty quick and moved on offshore.
If you remember my trip with Nick on Saturday, he stopped on some shallow water gags that absolutely hurt my feelings, not to mention my arms. Well they pissed me off and I was out for revenge today.
Went across a promising looking mark in 75 feet so we turned back around. It was a very small rock pile but it looked fishy. Got anchored and down go the baits.
First fish....shark. Ok, we'll give it a few more minutes and then we're gone. Next fish is a throwback gag. A couple of swing and misses and then I connect with a respectable gag. I warned them that I was on a mission today! (We found out later while cleaning him that he had 2 of our pogies in his stomach from the earlier whiffs! Revenge is oh so sweet! ) Anyway, caught a couple more shorties (something that I'm not used to when using such big pogies) then about an 8-9' shark and shut down the bite.
So much for that hole so we move on offshore to 100+ feet. Ran across another piece of bottom a little shy of our destination so we drop them down to investigate. Yep, they're here....and damn they must be starving! First two baits get slammed when we drift over the bottom and up comes a scamp that is almost legal (thrown back) and a decent red.
Dropped anchor, or should I say attempt to drop anchor, on the spot----I managed to foul up our anchor course the first time and ended up a bit off of where I wanted to be however the marks here looked really good as well. Dropped down a couple more baits and yeah, they're hungry here too. Up comes another scamp and another decent puddin'.
Started running short on bait so I jigged up a few and let Clint have at them for a bit. Had a couple of baits eaten on the way up so I drop back down again. Another nice red and this one actually spit up the bait that he bit off my sabiki rig just a few minutes before. Once again I say....revenge is oh so sweet! Long story short, the reds and scamps bit pretty good until right before sunset. Ended up with the grouper slam----scamp, red, and gag. I'll take it for an afternoon.....sorry for only getting a couple of pictures. Actually forgot that I had the camera with me.

Pretty work Bryan! A healthy gag and a goober slam! Give them inshore pigs hell, whenever you can. They sure can fight back!
